Dunkerbeck skifter til North Sails
Bjørn Dunkerbeck er den mand i verden som har domineret en sportsgren længst og mest suverænt. Han er samtidig også en af de surfere som har været allermest trofast overfor sin sponsorer. I 2001 fik vi lov til at skrive at Generalen efter 12 år skiftede fra F2 boards til hans eget Proof Boards – den gang pga. at de folk han havde arbejdet sammen med havde forladt F2.
Den samme grund ser nu ud til at lægge til grund for at han skifter fra Neil Pryde til North Sails.
“With my friend and former Neil Pryde head tester Jimmy Diaz going back to North Sails, I lost my last communication partner in the sail-development. Hearing of North Sails setting up a full research and development center in Gran Canaria made me think to be a part of this ‘new team‘, because these guys want the same things I do. Due to this unique team building up at North Sails with every single member being the best in his field, I thought of leaving Neil Pryde first time ever (after being with them for 15 good and successful years), based more on a commitment than on financial rewards – therefore it‘s a long-term contract with the goal to make the best sails and innovate through a continuous year round research and development cycle. And in the end it‘s the team/people at North Sails, which made the difference for me. With being so closely involved into the North Sails research and development , I‘m fully confident and motivated to dominate the speed and racing scene. Plus I like the family atmosphere within the team really pushing each other to the max – this has and will always be my way of working. So now the stage is set and my goals are clear for the future.”
Bjørn er oprindeligt født i Ribe men flyttet ved 8-10 års alderen med sin familie til Gran Canaria. Han er i dag 35 år og nåede at vinde verdensmesterskabstitlen i racing 13 gange i streg og ialt 33 officiele “world titles”. Hans fokus ligger nu to steder. Dels på at vinde wave-titlen, en titel han ikke har vundet siden 2001 og dels på at slå ”the open ocean speed worldrecord”.

På Intersurf har vi også lige fået nyheden, og det er en meget spændende situation, for Bjørn har en masse goodwill at tilføre mærket. Med både Micah Buzianis og Bjørn Dunkerbeck på racesejlene, tror vi at North Sejl bliver en markant medspiller på racescenen.
Det er for tidligt at sige noget om hvordan vi kommer til at bruge den nye situation.
