Quiksilver's King of the Park

Alle stjernerne er igen samlet for at give den max gas!

(Thursday, 31 August 2006): Preparations are under way for a massive weekend at Snowpark near Wanaka on New Zealand’s South Island as a field of famous international snowboarders and skiers ready themselves for Quiksilver’s King of the Park half-pipe competition presented by Samsung, taking place this Sunday, 3rd September.

The P.I.G. style elimination has attracted a stellar line-up of 45 entrants, including the likes of Marrku Koski (FIN), Mathieu Crepel (FRA), Martin Cernik (CZE), Torah Bright (AUS), Max Cookes (AUS) plus local New Zealand riders Jacob Koia, Will and Jah Harris, Jo Mackenzie and Stef Zeestraten. Snow fans are invited to get on up the mountain and be a part of what is sure to be an awesome weekend!

The action begins late Saturday afternoon with the ‘Samsung K5 MP3 Rail King’ taking place near Snowpark’s Woolshed bar and restaurant. $500 bucks first place prize is up for grabs along with some serious Samsung and Quiksilver booty.

Sunday’s action begins after midday with a Big Air competition, followed by the “King of the Park” half-pipe and quarter pipe jam sessions. The final P.I.G run elimination to decide the 2006 “King of the Park” will take place at night with the terrain park lit up by lights on Sunday evening.

DJ’s, music and giveaways by Quiksilver and Samsung will take place both days. And there will be a free BBQ, open to the public and competitors on Sunday afternoon. It’s all about fun and good times at the best terrain park in the world!

Presenting sponsor Samsung will be unveiling a new Samsung K5 MP3 player with in-built speaker, as well as the new Quiksilver & Roxy branded MP3 range. The eventual “King of the Park” will (try to) walk away with an awesome Samsung 82cm LCDTV and Samsung Home Theatre System.

“Samsung are excited to once again team up with Quiksilver for this huge event. It’s a perfect opportunity for Samsung to showcase our latest cutting-edge and feature-packed products; while fans are taking in all the action on the mountain,” said Kurt Jovais, Samsung General Manager Corporate Marketing.

Clint Allen, winner of last week’s Coca Cola Leap for Loot at NSW’s Perisher Valley, Torah and Ben Bright, and Frenchman Candide Thovex, regarded as the world’s most consistent and innovative skier, are just a few names who have already arrived at Snowpark to get some early practice.

Park conditions have been ‘epic according to Sam Lee, Snowpark’s owner and facilitator, with many photographers and filmers making the most of sunny conditions. Riders have been going big off a massive new step-up jump and a recently completed kicker, that measures approximately 30 metres across.

A helicopter is also on standby, which will be used for filming and tracking riders as they hit terrain features.
