Rapport: Volcom Flatfish i Klitmøller

Harsh weather conditions was forecasted and welcomed both surfers & spectators to this years VQS Flatfish Surf Series.

As strong winds was blowing from West the contest was re-located 15 km. South of Klitmoller to the town of Vorupor. Sets with shoulder- to headhigh waves rolled in the whole event through, and had the riders batteling it out in front of an amazed crowd (which partly consisted of fishermen who’d never even seen a surfboard before…….).

With competitors from Venezuela, Spain, Fiji, USA, Equador, Trinidad and surely good ol’ Denmark the level of surfing was high – leaving spectators with high expectations……!!

As the event rolled on it quickly became clear who was dominating: Eddie Salazar an Equadorian native, now with a danish citizenship, and last years winner impressed everyone (incl. Judges) with long fast lines and incredible boardcontrol. Also notheworthy was Darren Awai and Jaji Iglesias who both stunned the crowd with amazing moves in the cold water of the flatfish.

The final 6 surfers was:

Sigurd Jeppsson

The final was on and both surfers and crowd was amped!! The battle for first place was tough, however it quickly became clear who the top three guys was. Below’s the result:

1: Eddie Salazar: Fast lines, supreme boardcontrol, huge floaters

2: Darren Awai: Fast and loose…………..Trinidad going nuts!!!!!!!

3: Jaji Iglesias: Quick, incredible boardcontrol, was somehow a little limited by the demanding conditions (pretty cold with a nasty current) and therefore wasn’t really showing judges what he’s capable of

4: Sven Hansen: Good wave selection, quick snaps

5: Eno Kloft: New talent with nice style – we’ll be seeing more of him in the future

6: Sigurd Jeppsson: Nice style with long lines – we’ll hopefully also be seeing more of him in the future

Prizegiving was next. Everybody was stoked and tired and as the first rain drop falled, people drove home to rest, get a shower and get ready for a few drinks at the Volcom house later in the evening.

All in all a really good event that people look forward to see and paticipate in next year again.
