Snowboard - Interview med Jenny Jones
SheRiders har fået fingrene i et interview med en af verdens bedste kvindelige snowboardere, Jenny Jones. Tak til snowparksavoriaz.com for, at vi må bringe det.
Who are you: Jenny Jones
Age: 26
Home: Bristol U.K
Season home: Morzine-Avoriaz
When did you start snowboarding, how, with who?: I first tried snowboarding when my brothers and i had a free hour lesson on our local dryslope in the uk. I didnt give it another go until college about 18 and me and mates went to the alps for a week and this is when i really fell in love with snowboarding. i finished my studies and went to Tignes for my first season, working as a chalet maid and snowboarding everyday, great.
Which part of snowboarding do you like the most?: I really enjoy progressing in the park, i think freeriding is brilliant fun and when your with your mates having a laugh.
What are your favorite tricks?: Frontside five nosegrab, tailslides and big indy bones in the pipe
Best contest?: Probably this year at the chicken jam international girls contest in Kaprun. The weather was a bit windy but the jumps were ok and i managed to land a frontside 720 so i was super stoked, placed 3rd and was pleased with that
Worst contest?: I think that would have to be Japan last year because I had taken such a long flight to get there and was enjoying the culture and atmosphere so much. However the high winds meant the comp was cancelled so I could not compete and also hurt my ankle which meant I could not go freeriding with friends which sucked even more becuase the powder in Japan is supposed to be amazing
How is the international girl scene as you see it?: I think there is a growing amount of talented female riders which is great to see but also keep you on your toes and makes you push your own level. It makes the contest more exciting having more riders at a high level. There seems to be tons more girls riding street rails and proper backcountry which is really impressive.
Who do you think is the best female rider in the world?: Well i would say Victoria Jealouse is one of the top freeriders in the world , Annie Boulanger is riding the backcountry really well at the moment too. But put those girls in a park and Cheryll Maas or Jamie Anderson would probably kick their ass, then the pipe riders like Kjersti Buaas and Gretchen would give them a run for their money. So what i am saying is there isn’t one girl at the moment that seems to be amazing at all the aspects of snowboarding but there is definately some super good girls in several parts Any tips for the girls riding out there?: Try to differenciate from real fear ( telling you not to do something because it is definately beyond your level) and fear that is stopping you from progressing which you have to overcome.Wear butt shorts on icey days, dont get stuck only riding boxes or only riding jumps , its more fun to keep variety in your snowboarding
Any tips for the girls who want to become pro?: It’s great to watch other girls riding and get motivated from this but dont compare yourself too much, concentrate on what your doing and dont worry about what other girls are doing. At the end of the day you can’t change how good they are, you can only improve your own riding. If you are having fun you will keep progressing.
Why do you ride in Avoriaz?: They have fantastic terrain, good powder spots, fun tree runs, jib lines., rock drops, kickers spots, quality halfpipe, a small park for learning and a big park for progressing further, both of which are well maintained with super friendly park crew
What other sports do you do?: I love surfing
Music: Hot chip, Arcade fire, Ray Montagne, Lionell Richie, Led zepplin, Lily Allen, Sizzla, Gwen Stefani, a right mix i suppose
Park or powder?: Both please!
English boys or French boys?: Neither I like men
Cars or motorbikes?: Cars
Last word and thanks: Thanks to my parents and my brothers. Thanks to Billabong, Salomon, Nixon, Oakley, and Avoriaz resort for all their support. Thanks to all my riding buddies x….
