After a successful year on the PWA slalom tour, Australian, Steve Allen (Starboard, Severne) joins the 2009 PWA Board Constructors Champions, Starboard, as a member of their R&D team to focus on the isonic and Formula models.
Allen proved his worth yet again this year with his awesome 3rd place finish in Costa Brava helping him to notch up enough points to end the year on a high, ranked 9th place overall after one of the toughest years the PWA slalom tour has ever seen.
Starboard caught up with Allen recently and here’s what he had to say:
Starboard: Why did you choose to team up with us?
SA: “Firstly because Starboard are the best to help me achieve the highest possible results. Also I love development and dreaming of new innovative designs. Starboard are always keen to try something new and different to create the best possible products, whilst other companies tend to stay very conservative and don’t spend so much money on development.”
Starboard: What do you think of the new Starboard formula HWR & LWR?
SA: “Great combination of boards to suit everyone and all conditions.”
Starboard: What are your goals and which events will you compete in during 2010?
SA: “I’m aiming to be 1st in FW, and top 3 in PWA slalom. I will compete on the FW Gran Prix World Tour, FW European and World Championships, and the PWA Slalom Tour.”
Starboard: What will you be doing this winter?
SA: “I’ll be testing Severne sails in Australia during October and November. Then at the end of Nov I’ll be heading to Brazil for a FW GP tour event. Then in December and January I’ll go to the east coast of Australia to spend time with my family, whilst also getting in some wave sailing and some race training. Then back to Europe at the end of January to prepare all my FW gear and get some intense training in to prepare for the FW Worlds in Argentina in the end of March. And after that, I’ll be back on the PWA slalom tour.”
